Why this shape

What this looks like when the system has to survive production

A retrieval-augmented generation system is only as good as the passage it puts in front of the model. If the right chunk is not in the top results, no prompt and no model upgrade can recover it. That is why every RAG engagement here starts with retrieval recall measured on real questions from your users, before anyone writes a prompt.

We have delivered RAG systems over clinical records under HIPAA, over regulatory feeds in 3 languages, and over 5 million files that could not leave their regions. The shape is the same each time: structure-aware chunking, a hybrid BM25 plus dense index, reranking, permission-aware retrieval, and an evaluation harness your team can re-run on every change.

What you get

Delivered as a working production system, in your cloud account

Evaluation benchmark

A labelled set of 50 or more real questions with the source passage for each, built with your subject expert in week 1 and frozen as the acceptance test.

Hybrid retrieval and reranking

Keyword and dense search fused, then cross-encoder reranked. The cheapest precision gain available, and it is in every build.

Permission-aware answers

Retrieval filtered by the caller’s access rights before the model sees anything, with an audit entry on every response.

Citations on every answer

A grounding gate that blocks uncited answers, so every claim traces back to a passage your reviewer can open.

A backend you can sell

Auth, tenancy, usage metering, rate limits and dashboards, deployed into your own cloud account.

Monitoring from day 1

Retrieval recall, latency and cost tracked per release, with drift alerts before a user notices.

Architecture

The RAG pipeline we ship

Documents are chunked by structure and indexed twice. Each query is scoped by permissions, retrieved, reranked and checked by a grounding gate before the model answers with citations. Every step is traced so a wrong answer can be replayed to the chunk that caused it.

When this is the wrong tool

If your corpus is small and stable, a well-tuned keyword search with a summariser on top often beats a vector pipeline on cost and accuracy. 1 delivered system shipped without a vector store for that reason. We tell you which case you are in on the scoping call.

HIPAA-compliant clinical decision support for a hospital network

1. Problem. A US hospital network had patient records, lab results and ICD mappings sitting in silos, none of it reachable at the point of care. Clinicians needed decision support without adding friction to already demanding workflows.

2. Solution. A HIPAA-compliant clinical platform on GCP Vertex AI using a hybrid Agentic RAG pipeline. Patient records, lab data and medical literature unified into one queryable layer. Role-based access across every clinical and admin role, a full audit trail on every response, and a zero-downtime SLA.

Knowledge search that handles multi-document reasoning at scale

1. Problem. Critical institutional knowledge was scattered across hundreds of documents and disconnected systems. A single-vector-search setup had already failed. The organization needed multi-document, multi-hop reasoning that held up under real query volume.

2. Solution. Multi-agent reasoning with a Neo4j knowledge graph for complex cross-document queries. RAG Fusion lifted precision well above single-retrieval approaches. Role-based access with a complete audit trail across every department, handling 8,000 queries per day at launch.

Regulatory intelligence across 8 countries and 3 languages

1. Problem. A major European enterprise was managing GDPR, EU CSRD sustainability mandates and internal policy review across 8 countries at once. Each compliance cycle pulled in outside legal consultants and burned months of manual effort.

2. Solution. A platform that monitors regulatory feeds across every relevant framework, analyzes internal documents for compliance gaps in real time, raises risk flags with structured remediation steps, and produces board-ready reports in English, German and French on demand. An LLMOps governance layer keeps every decision auditable.

RAG development company: what buyers ask first

A focused RAG system over 1 or 2 data sources starts from $3,500 and ships in 2 to 4 weeks, including the benchmark, deployment and documentation. Multi-source platforms with access control and dashboards run $15,000 to $60,000 or more over 8 to 16 weeks.
